Not surprising. A lot of the classics from that time period are classic for a reason, even ignoring the nostalgia factor. It says more of today's video game climate than anything else.

To be fair as it was Gold and Silver were pretty much the improvement on a classic for it's time. I think it is possibly the perfect sequel title of any game I know.
I mean you start off in another area, complete the challenges there, then you move to your old stomping ground, conquering that place with new graphics and animations and new life brought into it, and then you take on the old champion, the "player" from the first game. Or at least the protaganist as he is in the lore.
The only thing that would have made G/S perfect as a sequel was having the ability to have a separate save file that held your old save in the machine so they could make references to your old journey and remember your party so you fight that at the end instead of the lore version, but the tech at the time couldn't handle that.

Status update: applied for my GI Bill, have my tuition and housing completely paid for. Also found a few apartments that are in the running...now I just need a job, probably work study.
