Okay instead of bashing the Kett, or just bashing the Kett, can we maybe pool together and think of some better ideas for a new alien race that's not going to break the current game engine?
Hell if we can agree on some designs I may even draw them and we can wave them in Bioware's face.

Could of been neat to have a bug race. Aside from the Collectors or the Rachni.

Failing that? An Aquatic race. Like the Zora from Zelda, could of been cool. Would of made for a cool setting. Underwater level would of been cool.

Hmm... something weird but plausible and not engine-breaking. Maybe some kind of vetebrate who has two sets of legs. Or maybe that's some kind of tripedal organism, like it has only one, very mobile, gripping hand and two legs. So far with the exception of the hanar and the rachni all of the ME aliens have been just tetrapods with various features reminiscent of earth's animals. When in reality, a sentient organism would only need a cavity to house its organs, an head or a protusion with the sensory organs on it, and some appendage that can manipulate the outside world and create tools.

I can understand keeping things more in an human-like comfort zone for the friendly aliens, but let's push the envelope abit more on the bad guys, ffs. How many more cyber-bugs and space-orcs we need to see?

The plates on a turian arent bone. They are plates of hard skin that have traces of metal in them.

Generally you dont want exposed bone.

More likely you are looking at something that is either fleshy, like youd find on a mushroom, or made out of the keratin that we have in our fingernails or a rhino has in its horn.

There is probably bone underneath however.

Well there are reptiles that have spines or spikes that are bones coming usually from the skull directly . The horned lizard is an example the spikes that come out of the back of its head are bone.

Usually the bone is covered in Keratin though, right?

Like, for example, the different between a horn and an antler is that a horn is actually connected to the skull, but is covered in keratin, where as an antler isn't connected at all.

Basically all I'm saying is that while bone is involved, you aren't seeing bone, because bone on the outside of the body is generally a bad idea.

If nothing else, he acknowledges a few points about tone.

It was also somewhat reassuring to hear him acknowledge:
    The ending was not well liked.
    Story mattered, but people mostly cared about characters.
    Side missions felt off because you were looking at dirt while the galaxy was on fire.

Doesn't look like mushroom flesh-like to me.
To me that looks like bone/coral/rock.
Or keratin, but not mushroom flesh.

Does it really matter? It looks like any other Mass Effect alien ever. It has a Prothean-like head, except with the head crest thing turned upside down, it has shoulderpads thingies except organic, 3-fingered hands like most ME non-humans and the chest-bumb thing like turian, krogans and salarians do.

Thank God we have to travel all the way to another another galaxy to meet something so unfamiliar to anything seen before!

The asari are fine for what they're intended to be. They're the Orion girls, or the twi'leks of Mass Effect.

It's easy to forget Mass Effect started off with a sleeked out, but distinctly retro design aesthetic.

I do like the Kett's armor design, I'll admit. The creature inside insted is very unremarkable. Give them a third eye, or bug-like mandibles, or some antennas, at least...

The more I look at it the more it just seems like a krogan and a collector mixed togheter, with a human-like face.

Again... THIS IS A CREATURE FROM ANOTHER GALAXY! Put SOME detail in it we haven't seen already in stuff native of the Milky Way!

The most dull and unimaginative design of the lot.

The Kett look like someone took the Locust from Gears of War and dumbed them down to be less threatening and intimating. You're going to a whole new galaxy, and have an excuse to go full wild with the alien designs, do something different than what the series is used to, and you deliberately hamstring yourselves creatively because you think players won't be able to relate or emphasize with them if they're too alien looking? That just sounds like you don't have the confidence in your writing and presentation to win people over.

You guys said the same thing about Garrus and Tali and look how that turned out.

And where's my alien species that looks like the unholy love child of a Graboid from Tremors and Sammael the Desolate One from Hellboy, huh?

The only two realistic reasons I can think for them to go for this dull and "human-friendly" design is that we're getting a Kett squadmate, or that thei're stucked using humanoid models to recycle animations. There's literally no other good reasons for that thing to have such human-like facial features other than making it able to express emotivity in a way us monkes could empatize with.

Whenever I see the Kett, I'm half expecting to get more chainsaw fuel so I can cut them in half with it and get more ammo. Had it been any other shooter, I wouldn't exactly say that it's a bad thing that they remind me of Doom, but...let's just hope that the next race looks a little more inspired.

Also, the whole "we don't want to confuse newcomers with many alien races" thing is fucking stupid, because that's exactly what ME1 did and I thought it was just fine. Aside from the encyclopedia article dumps here and there.

Yeah, look at MeaslyBinkie post and you can see at the bottem corner that it says the game is not included.

It actually really upsets me that I have to invest into one of these stupid collectors editions just to get a fucking steel book. I have the steel books for ME2&3 and I love them both. Was hoping to get a collectors editon with a steel book for this game but not some stupid nonsense like this. Doesn't even look that great but I still kinda want it.

My senses tell me that EA is responsible for this move.

Picked this up off BSNNu

Guys, guys, new info.

So I have this gaming magazine from my country and they have an article about Mass Effect Andromeda.

First of all, guy that wrote that was one of 4 people that could see actual gameplay. He is a big fan of the series. There is a lot of info that was already in Game Informer but there are some new things:

1. There are no reapers in game itself but BW said that they will be mentioned in some way later on
2. We start the game on Hyperion ( mostly human arc)
3. BW still quiet about Quarians
4. We can choose whatever we want to attack some aliens or go with peaceful approach when exploring planets
5. Highest lvl is 70th
5. We can have only 2 more characters in our party but BW showed battle in which friendly NPCs helped our team
7. On one planet they encountered 2 fighting fractions which ignored player for the time of battle
8. Doing everything on one planet should take 2-3 hours
9. Tempest has landing zones on every planet and this is the place when you can find quests
10. You can leave planet from anywhere
11. Tempest is much smaller than Normandy but has a lot more windows to enjoy the view of the galaxy
12. Scanning planets returns in some way and it's a little similar to the one in ME2 (you will need to land and find something on your own sometimes)
13. Crafting is much more developed but it's optional
14. At least 2 new races (on of them is Kett)
15. PeeBee irritated writer for some reason ( :D)
16. Writer also says that ME:A takes what's best from trilogy adding to it enormous worlds to explore and a brand new story. He is very optimistic about this game so far

Multi:

1. Turians in multiplayer (among others)
2. Multiplayer feels fluid and fun, rocket jumps and sprinting is incorporated
3. Granades have holographic sign that gives player information about range of said granade
4. Overall all, looking good

A bit more from the same guy.

1 the author wrote that each ark has 100 000 people on board.


2 from what I understood the ships are divided by race cause of differences in hibernation equipment.


3 the author wrote that mkst of the crew is in sleep mode but it seems that ( translating from polish) " the crew taking care of the sleepers during the travel is multi racial" - so crew is awake? and more than just the asari on board?


4 both siblings were trained to be pathfinders


5 the default and official main protagonist is the fem ryder this time ( writes the author)


6 there seem to be film sequences in the game during the player can only maneuver the camere


7 the author complimented the special effects


8 the encounters are more dynamic ( due to the me3 multiplayer bioware team being the ones mainly responsible for andromeda)


9 three most important changes are the jetpack, automatice ( no need to press a button) covering behind objects and sprinting (replacing tumbling)


10 the dev team first balances the weapons and powers in multiplayer before passing it on to singleplayer ( the exception being sniper rifles)


11 he mentions things like shooting from the air and charging from hights


12 this sentence did catch my eye - "in comparison to its archetype ( the nomad) it is not - atleast at the beginning - armed..."


13 said optional crafting will allow to strongly improve weapons


14 all planets are hand crafted


15 quests are acquired in hubs and during exploration


16 he did mention the rumours of 100 planets but did not confirm it. ( in relation to maxing quests on planets taking 2-3 hours)


17crafting is more expanded than in any other bioware production


18 lvling system a tleast as complex as me1


19 point distribution either by yourself or the computer ( though it will follow your chosen klass ex. an infiltrator will be an even better "ghost" when lvling up)


20 there are abilities that are not directly related to fighting but are used during conversations or uncovering new places.


21 andromeda is compared to the witcher by the devs


22 it seems m&k in multiplayer is well programmed.

Drag, that's nothing. I really doubt all those games are coming out on new Year's Eve.

That's just a place holder date, most likely because they don't know they exact date, but they know the year so they cover all the months until they get the info on when the various games comes out.
