6:30, not a single trick or treater.
It's sad, but I can't say I'm surprised. But we also must never allow the Zoomers and their younger cohorts to ever have power.

I see what they did with the title, ehe...

Just found my old Jade Empire save on a USB. *Sigh*, why was there never a Jade Empire 2? They at least need to remaster that game, it was excellent

I was actually sort of looking forward to trick or treaters when we got a house, but after two years and nobody showing up, I just sorta gave up. They all go to sterile trunk or treat rubbish now.
@Jade Empire
It's really good but it has a super, super slow start. I have a tremendous amount of patience for talking in games, but every time I've gone back to play it again I crap out after like 2 hours of mundane village stuff interspersed with maybe 5 odd minutes of fighting.

Also, happened to hear this on the radio and though it was interesting: https://www.npr.org/2018/10/31/66251536 ... -dinosaurs
Apparently, some dinosaurs had speckled or colored eggs like birds.

Makes sense to me, since birds are living dinosaurs.

None all night. I'm told it's because we're on the main road, the side roads supposedly get more, but I'm sure being a working class town that's been overrun with immigrants and nobody's having kids isn't helping. Still, I had my good years of going out and getting the candy haul, it's my turn to pay it back, and it's a shame it's a ritual that seems to be fading.

Right? I thought it was Bioware's strongest title before ME1 came out. Didn't get nearly the reception it was due.
Plus it had a threeway.

Kirby gets to be the one to kickstart story mode again, and Shantae is one of the new glorified stickers, not even an assist trophy. Sigh.
Other than that, good stuff.

Just answered a question on Bing, which is scarier? Zombies or Aliens? I answered zombies because every lore about zombies is about the end of times and some uncontrollable force that will reign destruction down on you. I watch too much Star Trek and Futurama to really be afraid of aliens, since there may be a good chance that they'e pretty cool and chill.

Zombies are scarier. Hostile aliens are actually possible though so it's a more rational fear.

Depends, really. Aliens is such a broad concept... it goes from ET to the Old Gods of Lovecraft and everything inbetween. I'd say zombies because thei're more focused of a concept, and pretty much never used in a positive way.

I think zombies, because when they break out, you've already lost and your civilization will never be the same.

It all depends on where one lives. I only had one trick or treater last night, but my sisters got to give out almost all their candy to numerous little costumed munchkins.
A neighborhood with multiple families sporting kids in the 3-12 years old range is best for seeing Halloween enthusiasm in regards to costumes, decorations and trick or treating participation.

That’s kinda way too broad a question for me to definitively answer without some sort of context, specifics, or parameters.
Are we talking slow walking zombies or fast running zombies? Zombies made by science or supernatural forces? What is the rate of zombie infection? Are the aliens animalistic or highly intelligent and use advanced technology? What are the aliens' goals and motives? What do the aliens look like and what is their biology? Are we encountering the aliens on their planet or ours? Is this a hypothetical apocalypse doomsday scenario?
If I had to go against aliens that were like the Thing, Xenomorphs, Tyranids, the Blob, or something out of H. P. Lovecraft, then I'd find that scarier and would rather face a horde of zombies. If the aliens are like Vulcans or Quarians or Twi'leks then the zombies are obviously scarier.

Oh aliens. For sure. Not even a question.
Zombie outbreak would be over before it started. Humans are very good at killing things, and diseases that transfer through saliva/blood to blood contact move very slowly. If it was actually that dangerous, we would have been wiped out by rabies centuries ago.
Hostile aliens could blow up the Earth because it obstructs their view of Venus and not even care, or know, anyone lives here.

Dude, there could not be a more obscure character then Shante. I mean, its not like her games have reached massive popularity like Shovel Knight.
Hell based on japan's love of it, I would expect an Undertale character more then I'd ever expect Shante.

Pretty sure there's more obscure characters on the indie scene, and unlike the people behind Shovel Knight, Wayforward has been affliated with Nintendo from the beginning. But oh well. Complaining too much about Smash Ultimate in any capacity makes me feel like a spoiled brat, so I won't do it.

I agree. We've picked apart zombies over pop culture waaaay more than aliens. Zombies are only really any danger now if you hinder/cripple the human or make the zombies massively OP like in 28 Days Later (yes, "the infected" are still a zombie type...) or in any game where they're able to horde-mode easily.
If any zombie outbreak actually happened, especially in modern day, the virus/infection/curse would have to be airborne to have any affect on the Western world. You might get pockets but nothing "humanity killing". I mean if you just play Plague Inc. you'd see the limitations of a virus and then see how much you have to boost a zombie virus to even make it viable.
Aliens on the other hand are mysterious. Apart from the big doomsday versions you've also got the one on one/ group on group dynamics where you could have no idea what their capabilities are. All you know it's us vs them.
And look at the "name" of it. Alien. Foreign. Different.
Given how tribal humans are it's very easy to make an enemy that plays to the "not in your tribe and could be a threat" that still lurks in our primal DNA. Not knowing is the worse fear as our imagination fills in the blanks.
Aliens as a whole have more current potential to be scary, even if you watch shows where we're friends with a few there are always those who are not, and they're easily able to be stronger, faster, more intelligent, more numerous, etc.
Even the concept of "Humanity, F*ck Yeah!" and those tales places a group above others. It just so happens in the scenarios that we are the alien to another form of life that comes in and destroys, corrupts, co-opts, exterminates, etc.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Does anyone have a friend or know anyone who has a very high rank in the military? I'm guessing Mob has the best resources here. In the common ScI-fi scenario where scientists and the military have to work together the usual plot device is that the scientist have until X-O'clock to find a solution until the military takes over and kills everything. You name the movie or tv show and it has it. That's just to make the story exciting, right? Is that realistic? Does a military leader watch that take place in the movies and roll their eyes? Or am I being too general and a scenario like that CAN exist, but in only a few plot convenient circumstances?

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Lance is the expert on military protocol, but I would think that any scientists working for or with the military would have their own chain of command that doesn't intersect with the actual combat arms. So the man in charge would be coming from that focus rather than, "Dammit, I just lost 3 battalions, you have a week to get the MacGuffin working or I'm dropping the nukes!"

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
I am?
The military in general goes to some length to do that sort of thing in-house. If you ever saw the movie Outbreak with Dustin Hoffman and Cuba Gooding Jr., you'll note that the scientists working on stopping the Hantavirus all work for USAMRIID (U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases), and I mention that movie because it's probably the only reason you'd have ever heard of USAMRIID. They're still scientists, but they're in the Army so when they say something like "I need to do X", that decision can be weighed by what rank they are and this goes up the chain of command properly.
The other option is that the scientists are civilians. Some other type of federal employee, like the CDC, a Department of Energy NEST team, or whatever this really vague situation calls for. In that case, the lawful orders and responsibilities of command were drawn up (you hope) long before the military arrived in theater. So if something happens and the military says "We've gotta evacuate", there's not really a complaint in here because it's part of the contract.
The really hazy part is what you mean by "the military takes over and kills everything". My memory fails me when I try to think of an example of that bit since it sounds so corny it plays out in a lot of parodies, but I don't remember an original article that got parodied. It sounds like something that B-movies from the 50's would use to poke fun / make cautionary tales about the military during the Cold War. The closest thing I can think of is the first Cloverfield movie, where the Army had the rather reasonable goal of evacuating Manhattan and killing the goddamn monster before it got too much further.

Hey, haven't heard about Jennifer Hale in a while. Good for her.
Shame that the game reeks of wasted potential, since the lore and stories are more interesting than it is.
