Managed to finish the job. I hope. Night shifts are better than early morning, by a yuge margin, but it is a bit of a hassle dealing with painting around an active office. Had to dig out a ton of dusty bags, shoes, and other crap from under a certain desk in order to access the wall, for one. But the place looks much better. Apparently the firm had had the same baby blue on the walls since 1999. On my recommendation, made it a lighter brown with a touch of yellow in it. Modern, clean, contrasts nicely with the darker office equipment. I call it a win, despite the obstacles.

Though all the pretty office girls eyeing me up when they thought I wasn't looking was gratifying, I'll admit.

Welp, I finished the career mode in Redout.

Money and XP balance ought to be worked on.
So, you earn money by completing events. You spend it on unlocking and upgrading ships and abilities. At first, the cashflow is so slow that you can hardly afford to upgrade your ship, which is necessary if not downright required to be competitive even in the first few events. But, once you hit class III, things just unlock stupid fast. Soon after starting Class IV, I was left with nothing to spend anything on. It would be nice if you could at least buy ship skins, but those are all unlocked from the start.

Similarly, you earn XP as you race as well. Leveling up unlocks new events, and unlocks the ability to buy higher class ships (once you reach a certain level). However, before you even finish Class III, you'll easily reach max level (30), and have all events and classes available. Buckets are left over. Some form of progression past this would be nice.

AI needs some work. Despite the patch that came out today, they still are dumb as rocks when it comes to a few particular jumps. There are jumps in the game where, if you're going at a good speed (i.e., class III or IV), they don't angle their pitch enough to actually land, and instead overshoot the jump by a mile and explode. On the instagib gamemode (no respawn, double damage from collisions), this is hilarious on a few maps. One of the last tournaments involves an instagib race on one of the volcano maps. Six ships (of ten) missed the first jump on the first lap, and by the end of the race, there was only one AI left.

The AI fly as if you, or any other AI, simply isn't there. They make no attempt to avoid you if they're about to collide with you, which is really annoying since the boost mechanic means anyone can accelerate really quickly out of nowhere, slamming into people in front. This is an issue for a number of reasons. For one, the collision appears to be worse off for who you hit rather than who actually hit you. Keep in mind, there is no real combat in this game; it's designed with go fast, git gud, and go even faster in mind, not blow up demolition derby. Collisions do huge amounts of damage, and the clusterfuck of ships at the start of a race, especially in the higher classes, is absolutely frustrating, since the ships will just collide, spin out, and boost right into you. I've had games start where, before you even hit the first turn, you're down to 10% health. Since it's also horribly disorienting, you usually don't have enough time to react to the curve, so you slam into a wall and explode. About 30% of the time, a collision will completely spin you around, too, with seemingly not impact on the AI.

The AI is also rather inconsistent. The AI is chosen a little at random, based on your ship. So in one race you could be up against the fastest ships, each one with full upgrades and abilities, whereas in another, you could be up against the slower ships. Since the AI is near-perfect in racing, it can be really annoying where the easiest route to win gold is not to improve, but to simply back out to the menu and re-initiate the race, dicerolling easier opponents. Today's patch helped so that the opponents selected are closer to your own ship/abilities and upgrades, but it's definitely still present.

The AI opponent that is in first is also a rather significantly better racer than the opponents in 2nd through 10th. Usually, the #1 AI breaks ahead and just fucks off miles into the distance. Even the slightest mistake will cause you to fall too far behind to catch up. You could be so far ahead of the #2-#4 clusterfuck group that usually forms that they don't even show up on the opponent distance meter on your HUD, but at the same time, the guy in first place could explode and respawn twice before you even get to see his rocket trails. Now having difficult AI isn't a bad thing, as it's great to have something to really push you to learn the track and git gud, but it's really annoying that you effectively have to seize first from the start and hold it for the full race. Funnily enough, if you break ahead of the #1 AI enough, it seems the AI's skill falls, and he just lags back to join the #2-#4 clusterfuck group.

There's a few events that are stupid, too. The hardest event is a Survival event called "The Sand Pit," which took roughly 3-4 hours of continuous attempts to get gold on.

Survival is a weird event. You start with time on the clock that counts down as you race, and there's no opponents. Every checkpoint you pass adds more time back. The goal is to pass as many checkpoints as possible. BUT, damage is doubled, there are no respawns, and the track is littered with mines. Traditionally, you would expect the mine placement to be such that it encourages you to find the perfect "path" or "curve" through the track and the bends, but it's the opposite. Mines are placed in the parts of the track that would otherwise be the best. The Sand Pit is unique in that the mines are just fucking everywhere where you'd want to be. There are not good lines to follow because there's just mines. What makes Survival more weird is that you can bring abilities with you, so you can just bring the repair drone active ability to negate any collision or mine damage you take. At that point, the mines are only annoying in that they slow you down. The few times I took no repair drone made the event a funner experience, but still, the mine placement seemed designed just to fuck with you rather than encourage better play.

I have to question the boost mechanic too. You have an energy bar that fills up quickly over time. This can be used as a boost, not unlike boost in normie racing games like burnout and NFS. This boost was useful for coming out of bad turns, but if you're a skilled pilot, you won't slow down very much in the corners. In the end, it's only purpose is to make the AI even more annoying, as they can suddenly just rocket past you, and seem to time their boosts with yours, so you can't use it to overtake.

There's active and passive abilities, which are weird. The passive ones I get. Those are things like an increase to top speed, better grip, better energy recharge, better armor, or massive boosts when slipstreaming behind an opponent. The active ones, however, seem a little out of place. There's an active grip ability that increases grip (steering) while active, but the boost amount actually seems less than the passive boost. There's also a massive turbo boost active ability, which uses your full energy bar up to rocket you forward like a fucking maniac, but I'm not really convinced that it's different enough from the regular boost built into every ship to make it functionally differentiate it. I just use it because it's more powerful. The active abilities that last time have such a small energy use rate that one wonders if they should just have been a passive ability.

Both in game mode and in active abilities, it seems as if the developers couldn't decide if they wanted to make a pure racing game or add in combat mechanics like in the Wipeout games. The middle ground is that the "combat" abilities are just an energy drain ability, and an EMP mine that distorts your screen. No abilities that do damage. One of the event types is called Arena, which is literally just a regular race with no respawns. All that just seems kinda silly to me. IMHO, the boost mechanic should be scrapped, and active abilities be changed so that they use more energy over time, are only really abilities that affect you rather than the silly EMP or energy drain, and have actual noticeable benefits overtop the passives.

But despite these issues, the game is great. Really scratches the Wipeout itch.

@Spartan: Wish I had a frontpage for the site up, that review would make for a nice article, for fun if nothing else.

@Theo: The first one. The proportions on the head in the second don't work, plus Woylyfnyfynjnir was a super cool boss.

@DarK: Right on. You have the reins on this one.

@Sci: Giving them sidelong glances and seeing they're looking at me. Plus when I was on the ladder, it was like a free show for all the ladies. Office girls have their games.

@Lance: Never played, but if it's a good one, may it be everything the fans wanted and more. Or else.

Just saw this video on the Weather Channel website that refers to the new moon as the 'Dark moon'. But in the video they say it the other way around, like it's common to call it the dark moon and it is also known as the "New Moon". Who the fuck calls it the dark moon? Why is a national weather service with acclaim acting like this is some new term that people don't know about. Are there actually people walking around who don't know what the name of the beginning of the moon's phases is called?

Watching the recording.

Apparently Clinton crushed Trump. I'm 20 minutes in and Clinton is just blitzing through Trump who keeps fumbling and interrupting while Hillary doesn't allow him to distract her nor diverge from her point.

Personally I enjoy Clinton derailing Trump's hype train, although Trump did more damaged to himself then she did.

I think whichever candidate you support is the candidate that won the debate in any debate I have ever seen.

Ive heard Trump got crushed, and I have heard that he did very well in the beginning, only to lose steam near the end.

I'm watching the debate recording and only good point Trump have given out was start taxing foreign business in US. But that's really it, everything else it's either unintelligible nonsense or blatant lies or complete gibberish.

Also polls are clear too on who won the debate.

Clinton leaning CNN poll: Hillary 62% Trump 27%
Trump leaning PPP poll: Hillary 51% Trump 40%

I still need to finish 40 minutes of debate, but whole time Clinton ripping him a new one and Trump digging his own grave.
Only those firmly with Trump say Trump had won, it's undecided voters that matter and Clinton is winning them over in this first debate. If she does just as well in next 2 debates or at least in the last one debate, she has the crown in the bag.

OK, now Trump pissed me off truly at the debate.
Russia has more advanced military then USA?!
BULL FUCKING SHIT!
Russian military still uses late Soviet weapons for the most part, while US has the most advanced military in the world and not just by having some few fancy equipment, but by average military personal!
What a crooked liar, anti-American military and Putin loving shithead.

Really, it's been the case worldwide with most democracies.

Pretty much, the person who 'won' is who you wanted to win, though Trump was objectively stronger in the first half. There was no great campaign killing moment or gaffe though, so we'll have to wait on the polls to see the actual sentiment. I suspect it won't move the needle much of all.

Well true enough.

I guess waiting for my country to go bankrupt (everything seems to go towards that), have made my view on politics a bit narrow.

I don't see people saying Trump was better in first half. He was really only good first 10-15 minutes, after that Clinton pretty much dominated the debate.
