But my tendency is to overcompensate and miss by a hair. This is a constant problem.

And just now I find out that Windows had left on an ambiguously labeled feature under mouse settings which was basically mouse acceleration. Well mystery fucking solved.

Due to the nature of her class, you can't have it both ways. You make her viable for high level play, and it inevitably makes her a go-to pubstomp for average level play.

To the contrary, by nature of her class, and what her skill floor entails, anything less than consistent scoped aim will result in unimpressive outcomes. She's a hitscan sniper, who must zoom, who cannot one shot anyone without at least a half-charged headshot. Anyone who can pubstomp with her is above average level play, and thus would already be capable of pubstomping even more effectively with other heroes.

Buffs travel down. Take a look at your graph. If the Elite players were viable in comp, what would they then be in QP? They were already pubstompers. It'd be like having cheats enabled for them. If the Above Average players were now at the same level of viability as the Elites, you now just made Widow a go-to pubstomp class for a significant percentage of the skill base.

They would be effective teammates in QP. I'm usually good with Widow in QP, few nice picks, pull my weight with damage and kills, and suppress enemy snipers well. But since her rifle is a single shot, hitscan, charged, zoomed weapon, it's prone to streaks. Like tonight. I tried to play Widow across several maps that work well for her, and because of enemy hero composition, positioning issues, and aim issues, I was accomplishing very little. One highlight was on Dorado offense, I was on top of the red building right outside spawn, trying to pick off a Junkrat under the arch who was spamming, and an Ana managed to plink me twice from the far ledge before I could react, then finished with a third. Embarrassing.

I would have been more useful as any other hero. Obviously I don't know what my QP MMR is at, but based on the ranks and skill level of the other players, it wasn't placing me too high. The issue wasn't the amount of damage, it was missed shots, outright inability to kill or even harm quite a few heroes, and so on. That's Widow, the kind of person who can pubstomp with her is already capable of far worse atrocities with others who don't have such harsh restrictions on their kit.

If she's not viable for high level, team coordinated play, I might understand. But, encountering many a well coordinated team with a good widow at the medium+change skill level makes me think that Widow balance isn't a problem. Maybe I'm not playing in a high enough skill bracket, but then that just comes back to the issue of whether or not you balance for the professional experience or the average experience. Pros or Joes.

She's viable in brief, highly specific instances from the most elite players. Which is a minuscule amount of played time in those settings. Which is another way of saying not viable, because that'd apply to literally any hero, even ones no one would ever actually use. Plus with coordination, you can ensure she's pressured, exposed, countered, and whatever else, quickly.

I don't know what bracket you're in, but the one I'm in, she's rare in QP. Not like the 1 per team at launch, now it's maybe 1 every 3 or 4 rounds at best. Hanzo, he's pretty much 1 per team. It's really quite hard to hit OW characters, much less their head, and there's a relatively heavy price for a miss, and not quite enough of a reward for a hit to justify it. I'll dig up some videos later maybe to explain it better than I can.

Since I'm about to nod off, and your writing spoke for itself quite well, I'll point out that since I was in fact playing like shit tonight, as Widow anyway, I turned off my chat channels and enjoyed blissful silence from everyone. Which is what I'd recommend you do if others act like jerks about learning Hanzo.

While finishing up my errands, on the road, a guy passed me driving a vehicle that was made to look like the Batmobile. Looked like a fusion of the Tim Burton version and the Nolan version. I have no idea if such a thing is street legal, but it was awesome looking.

Also, sweet potato fries go really good with ranch. That is all.
