Had a cute moment coming back from a long walk to get coffee creamer. Pass a young woman, mid-20's probably, latina. Heavy make up and yoga pants, like a suburban chollo. Say hi as we pass, and she responds with what sounded like a little girl's voice. Very cute. Much nicer than the multiple homeless and mentally ill people I passed by.

"Remedy Entertainment has announced that it will produce remakes of Max Payne and May Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne as a single title, dubbed Max Payne 1&2, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through a new development agreement with Max Payne intellectual property owner Rockstar Games.
Press release:
Remedy Entertainment Enters Agreement with Rockstar Games for New Max Payne 1&2 Project.
Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne, are pleased to announce that they will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne video games in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.
The relationship between Remedy and Rockstar Games dates back to the original release of the critically acclaimed Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne games, developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar Games. Both games left an indelible mark in popular culture, lauded for their neo-noir atmosphere, groundbreaking storytelling and “bullet-time” gunplay.
“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”
“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”
Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine. The game’s development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production. Under the agreement, Remedy has a royalty opportunity after Rockstar Games has recouped its development, marketing, and other costs for distributing and publishing the game.
The project is currently in the concept development stage."

How's everyone doing?
I'm making a sampled instrument for my mentor's studio. We recorded him hitting a cymbal many different ways and I've been tasked with building it up into a workable instrument patch so he can press some keys on his keyboard and play the cymbal. It is tedious work and it's editing so I've been listening to cymbals non stop for two hours, but it's rather enjoyable to see something I programed come to life.

Well, that was informative, certainly. So if foreign workers are being squeezed out, and the "natural equilibrium" of young kids working those jobs is returning, wouldn't that imply that a position for whatever you're trying to get into should also open? Pressure from the bottom up to create spaces for propah Englishmen to fill.

So-so. Had my 6th day this year of being laid out, vomiting. Was more mild than the last one. Spent about 100 hours in Elden Ring, starting to finally move into what I assume is the mid-late game, after faffing around the whole time. Work's picking up, thank God, and if all the potential jobs I'm hearing about come true, I'll be much less stressed. Managed to walk over 160 miles since mid-January, down 1 of 2 6km paths I take. Legs look better, much better endurance, but my knees start to hurt if I go any further. Otherwise, treading water. And you?
That sounds like a story you'd hear from an old, eccentric artistic master. Making his protegees do a repetitive, finely tuned exercise over and over until they appreciate it.
Right? Around here, it's 50/50 on if people expect a greeting and respond properly.

Doing well, although some upset at my workplace. My long-time colleague (who flipped out a bit during the pandemic) is leaving at the end of the month, my boss is looking frantically for a replacement and I'll have to come up with a plan on how to teach the new colleague the ropes when s/he arrives. Otherwise, all fine.

That's always a tough thing to deal with. My mentor is Danish and he's been dealing with the mess around his mother's death for over a year now. I guess taxes after a death are a huge thing to work with in Europe? She lived in Copenhagen.

Personally I've been trying to practice letting things go that bug me. Been reading the works of Marcus Aurelius and he writes A LOT about how to not let things eat away at you.

No way! I've walked 157 miles in the same time. No body pains as of yet, though my foot is feeling sore right in front of the heel since yesterday. And I have been getting a pinch in my right shoulder/Mid back, but I know the cause. I have a window in my studio that I have to lean over a work station to get to and I can barley reach it with the tips of my right fingers. (It's the only window in my room and I have no AC and it's in the 90s right now) I can't afford to close it all the way because I have to move studio equipment that I've carefully measured, blah blah yadda yadda, anyway I can hurt myself so I'm trying to limit that.

most likely (however I don't deal with it so I won't know until when my mother's death comes around, which is most likely within the next 10 years since she is also sick and handicapped), but grandmother is still alive so his stuff is her stuff now, including the bills so the taxes doesn't have much bearing yet (especially because a number of reasons he had no money left, I rather not go into why) aside from an extra tax that basically showed up last minute after his death because our government is lacking money because of the covid situation and now that we have to take in a good number of new refuges from Ukraine they really need every last DKR.

Half the time we're the same person, the other half we're opposites. There has to be a term for that.
Isn't a perpetually open window near studio equipment a big hazard?

Always starts with a nasal ache, distinct from normal ones in a way I can't explain. Saline spray will get mucus draining, but it appears more a warning sign than a symptom. Then within an hour or two, sour stomach, vomiting, for however many hours it takes. Exhaustion, internal aches after a while, but nothing notably painful besides. And no, same diet, no new chemicals. I thought it might be alcohol, since 4/6 times occurred after drinks, but then of 3 recent nights I had some, 2 were completely fine, and the third was very moderate and supplanted with food/water.
So I'm stumped.

You'd think but sadly no because kids aren't getting into shit jobs for their first one, they're encouraging the youth into better positions in some way to boost the economy or some shit.
But kids aren't doing that too much either from what I hear.
Mind you the economy is also making it so they can't hire as much people as standard.

Stepstone, which is a service in Germany.
I never was the person passing on my experience at work, so it'll be interesting. Since I've been a gamemaster for twenty years, I presume I'll be able to do it, but it'll be some work. ^^

Not in mostly dry southern california. Dust is my biggest enemy.

Hmmm. I had to deal with intense stomach pains for years that made me want to vomit. Started at the bottom of my esophagus and felt like a knife through my heart. Ends up I had gallstones which were triggered by fatty meals. (Beef ribs for instance) Since it's repeating and you're keeping track then you should find out what your dr says. Quickly too, I'd hate for you to have to suffer years for something that could be alleviated now.

Close family. Not much I can do about what's going on, besides... endure. But I had a bit of a therapeutic tantrum a few days ago, and I've calmed down a lot since.

Well dad had a slip and fall tonight while out celebrationg his birthday.
He'd just nipped off to the loo, bloody wet floor and he smacked his head.
He's in A&E right now (ER) and I can't be with him due to covid bullshit so..yeah...
I just fear a concussion with his blood thinners so I am naturally very worried.

My dad tells me stories about when he was a kid a lot. When he was 12, he got a job at a gas station just by hanging around, they had him moving cars and trucks around, 'cause nobody cared. Worked at a burger joint in the nearby mall, would give out free food to his friends, and they'd give him free food from their workplaces. Made enough doing these shit jobs to get an apartment, dirtbikes, cars, fly around the country with his friends to party, all with a high school diploma. When it came time to start a family with my mom, was working as a salesmen, and was able to support her through law school _and_ newborn me. My grandparents came here penniless, my grandpa did odd jobs until becoming a union painter much later in life, but was able to support a wife and 5 kids, and own a house, all by himself.
The exponential drop in return on labor is tough to accept. The one silver lining is that I didn't have to do the shit jobs. Yet, anyway.

Well, shit. Head injuries are always scary. We'll all hope for the very best then, and that whatever pub he was at compensates him with free pints for the rest of his life for it.

Right outside NYC in fact. Ain't much to do here, but plenty to do there. Have to figure out how the bus system works though.

I was thinking gallstones, yeah. Really should see a doctor, but I'm terrible about doing that for anything short of emergencies. Probably would be dead by now if my mother didn't insist on constant appointments when I was a kid...

Keep a good eye on him. Damn that sucks, especially on his birthday. I've been dreading the phone call from one of the parents about the other for about 6 years now. But they're both nurses with...90 years experience between them both. Dad has been bringing up more when this happens and that happens then this will happen... conversations lately. Sigh, growing older sure brings a lot of tough conversations.

Yeah, we've been having those types of conversations too.
Brings the dread right in because you never truly see them as the old people they're becomming but as your parent, your rock.
I am keeping an eye on him, the first 48 hours I have got to be with him so by 5am monday he'll be "fine" to be free from my ever watchful eye. But I am making sure that he still doesn't run around for everyone for a while, at least a week, just in case.

Yeah, I've been on that train (or is it trail? I dunno) of thought lately, since my dad is pushing through his middle 70's and my only living grandpa is even older. Can't help to think of all the things I haven't or should have done for them and there have been moments when those thoughts managed to push through my anxiety meds too.
It's not like I have regrets, but it feels like I should be trying to do more. I just don't know what that might be.

Train, trail, path, they're synonyms in this context.
But yeah. Been very lucky to have a generally long-lived, healthy family. Was able to meet a great-grandma and great-grandpa quite a few times before they passed. Lost a cousin to drugs. Grandma I live with is 88, age is really starting to show, sadly. By dint of making it this long in good health, probably will live another 5 years at least, but her body can't handle light house chores like she used to even 5 years ago. Worries me especially because if one of my uncles doesn't buy out this house, as he once said he planned to, I got nowhere to live. Other grandparents, haven't seen them in a few years, but they're hanging on. Parents are in their early 60s, somehow in good health despite it all.
Thinking about this stuff, among other personal topics, was a big reason I started reading so much philosophy and theology starting last winter. Though I haven't come to any conclusions, it actually has done a lot to mute the anxiety.

Cheers Drag, first 48 hours are crucial, but after that I can watch from afar.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of good things about certain philosophies and how meditation and such things might help, but I can never find the patience to sit still and enjoy it.
I have a rather odd feeling that causes depression and anxiety in a way that if I reach a certain level of tiredness or simply wind down, it starts to remind me of the time when I could barely get any sleep at all because of my chronic stomach problems and how it ruined a lot for me in the past. Therefore, I have to constantly keep my mind occupied with something to keep that at bay.
It's not an attention disorder or anything like that. More like...fearing a lack of energy.
