All I know is that I'm somehow attending university courses, despite practically sleeping through college and having to fight off depression for over a decade.

Oh and I also almost died twice during that decade. One involved a power cable and a greenhouse and the other a severe allergic reaction and some cheap imported cookies. You can't tell me there's a god, because if there is, he's a cunt and I want nothing to do with him.

I've sadly become something like a professional student and I've been to something like 6 or 7 different schools at every level from community college to undergrad to graduate both private and public in four different states. The school we are going to now (me and Theo) is an urban community college and my sister is also taking some math classes there because she wants to eventually get an engineering degree. It is a bizarrely sucky school (or rather it has bizarrely sucky instructors) but is the closest, cheapest community college. My sister is also a borderline professional student who has been to umpteen schools in various states and we were trying to figure out why this school and other schools we've been to that suck are so awful compared to ones that weren't.

The anecdotal takeaway: urban community colleges suck fucking balls. They are god-fucking-awful. Every dumb asshole who has no business being in school gravitates towards them because they can't get in anywhere better. The instructors tend to be disillusioned adjuncts who are paid beans and don't really care about what they do. You can learn stuff at these schools, but it's despite the instructors and not because of them. I feel like most of the classes I've taken here might as well have been independent study courses in which I do 95% of the figuring out of everything on my own and just show up periodically to get a stamp of approval or disapproval from the instructor.

Thing is that this anecdotal pile of evidence is including an urban community college in LA, two rural community colleges in Texas, & 2 urban community colleges in Texas (also putting in urban public 4-year schools in Louisiana, California, & Alabama). The takeaway was: the suck pile (urban community college in LA, 2 urban community colleges in Texas) & the decent to good pile (2 rural community colleges in Texas, 1 urban public 4-year in California and 1 in Louisiana). Private 4-year was good across the board (Oklahoma, Louisiana, Tennessee). I noticed no geographic/state trend in suckiness.

Nintendo E3 2018 Plans Detailed

"Nintendo's E3 details have been revealed, so now we know exactly when we'll hear about the company's slate. Nintendo's pre-taped briefing will air at 9 AM Pacific on June 12. Nintendo said the focus of its E3 Direct will be games releasing soon rather than beyond 2018. So what could be shown? I have yet to see what's so good about it. Oh, it allows you to have pictures and present links within one format. How impressive. I have to spend over 100€ just to be able to create the stupid thing in any official program. In a time-limited program, no less. A program I will use for a number of times I can count on one hand. Seminar questions about a book called "Illuminated Pixels, The Why, What and How of Digital Lighting" and the reader required to...well, read it is only available for a limited time online (because why pay for something once when you can force consumers to pay all the time for it?) because it's so goddamn old that it's borderline impossible to get in physical form without dropping cash in the triple digits. It's a PDF too, naturally.

I wouldn't be surprised if it starts babbling about mental ray tools too, which 3DS Max doesn't have anymore.

Fuck, this is so backwards. I have to jump through so many hoops to read a book that came out in 2012, when I should just flip a couple of pages in a book that's only a couple of years old at the absolute most, so I can focus on other things that actually require my attention before the course ends.

Ugh, whoever supervised the design of the dungeons in Final Fantasy XV needs a life lesson on what constitutes as fun. They're also very poorly made from a design perspective and I'm not even a game designer.

Example: I'm currently in a dungeon that takes place in a sewer (because it didn't suck enough on its own) that's essentially a maze like every other dungeon, which wouldn't be a problem if the map could show me different levels or at least have an overlapping feature, since they all have at least three different levels and the objective is just shown as a beacon with an up or down arrow. I have to activate four different generators to open up a gate in the sewer, but there are no hints whatsoever as to where these things are and next to no landmarks. None on the map and none in the sewer itself.

Had it been my choice, I would have had cables lead to the different generators, just to make it so that the player doesn't have to stumble around until they run into the damn thing by accident like I've done with every dungeon so far. Sure, it wouldn't be that creative, but it would have WORKED.

The game is good, but none of the games I have played thus far have held a candle to Yakuza 0. The story has a satisfying conclusion. Its definitely the end of Kiryu's story.

It just seems to be missing some of the, to quote a friend of mine, "pure fucking hype" moments. I have some hope for Yakuza Kiwami 2 though. Especially with the return of Majima.

I'm excited to see whatever they come up with next.

Oh I do suck at this combat style, but I'm still getting through my PotD run. Just finished reclaiming Caed Nua, otherwise cleared out everything before Defiance Bay. I cannot keep the systems straight at all. Will, Resolve, Deflection, Reflex, Dexterity, Might, it's all a blur of labels and numbers and I'm still winning somehow with basic tactics. It feels like I should be doing more, acting smarter. The ghost packs in Caed Nua, for example. Wiped me out first try. Second try, made everyone eat that Constitution buff food from the inn, had Eder chug a DR potion, used a scroll to cut the fucking debuffs in half, then spammed buffs, healing, and damage, and it sorta worked out by attrition. Wasn't paying attention to effectiveness of attacks or counterplay at all. So does it matter then?

I'm 5 hours away from that, so I can do that!

That's the idea! Couple people all within distance of it, and it's relatively cheap to stay for a while in the cooler months. I'm tempted to just book tickets now and be bold and reckless, because man, fuck being financially responsible all the goddamn time at my age.
