Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
First work trip of the year, going down to Rich People Island to do some powerwashing and exterior painting. Good timing, warm weather is finally rolling in this week. Hoping my guts don't interfere, can't afford to be laid out for a day. Place I'm staying almost assuredly won't have internet, but now that I have a current smartphone, should be able to tap in. Though my old Chromebook is having problems, the charging cable has to be wiggled and nudged to actually charge, and if it's the battery that's the problem, nothing I can do about that.
What helped me specifically with the fear and anxiety was to learn the paradoxes of materialism. Once I was able to understand why the conclusions of materialism undercut the ability to posit it, or in simpler terms, "If I am only atoms moved around by chemical reactions in the brain, then I couldn't actually know it." Once that door opens, at the very least it means we're not guaranteed to suffer pointlessly and then cease to exist. There is a new possibility, whether or not it turns out to be correct, that there is a purpose to all this, even if we don't understand it or figure out what to do about it. That has helped me, at least, more than anything doctors have given me (other than klonopin, which was great stuff) or therapists have said.
But I get that too. Around nightfall, for whatever reason, that's when the bad thoughts are strongest. Which is oddly when I have the most energy too. Clearly we need tanning lights in our rooms.
Someone With Mass wrote:Yeah, I've heard a lot of good things about certain philosophies and how meditation and such things might help, but I can never find the patience to sit still and enjoy it.
I have a rather odd feeling that causes depression and anxiety in a way that if I reach a certain level of tiredness or simply wind down, it starts to remind me of the time when I could barely get any sleep at all because of my chronic stomach problems and how it ruined a lot for me in the past. Therefore, I have to constantly keep my mind occupied with something to keep that at bay.
It's not an attention disorder or anything like that. More like...fearing a lack of energy.

Yeah, anti-depressive meds did more for me in one month than a whole year of therapy sessions. It's the difficult thing with all of this. You have no idea if it's something like a chemical imbalance in your brain that can be easily treated. Or maybe a healthier mindset is all that's needed. Who knows.
My productivity and desire to try out new things has dropped a bunch, but I'll take that and being stable over having to worry if I can endure a week of existential dread and feeling like I have to reach out everywhere for something that can calm me down. Ignorance is bliss in more ways than one.

I tried some anti-anxiety meds for a couple of weeks, they did nothing other than bring back my sleep aponea. so, back they went.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Day 2 of the trip down. 9 hours in the spring sun, monkeying up and down ladders and then powerwashing a grossly molded house and deck. Already injured myself a few different ways. But it's nice to be productive, and outdoors, too. Hope you lads are holding on too.

"Call of Duty Warzone (Vanguard/Caldera Story) takes place in 1944 during events of World War II. The conflict centers on Caldera Island, following the December events of "Operation Vulcan", a task force launched to hunt down Axis soldiers & powers whom fled to the South Pacific. The Task Force assigned this mission are shot down by anti-air weaponry, crashing on the island, as well as both separated and stranded. Ultimately through progressing events, it's discovered that the Nazis had secretly developed a powerful chemical bomb dubbed "Nebula-V". Storming a Nebula-V housing Nazi stronghold within the higher mountain regions, the task force, unfortunately, fails in stopping the widespread launch of the Nebula-V bombs in time. Resulting in events of the Nazis awakening Godzilla and unleashing a Titan disaster."

Still no new official Godzilla fighting game. Instead, he's crossing over with Call of Duty.

Meanwhile I'm well sunburned from 11 cumulative hours of cleaning a deck some brilliant millionaires never bothered to clean before at their beach house. Lemme tell you, when mold sets so deep that bleach can't kill it, only inch-by-inch nearly direct powerwashing, the wood needs to _go_.

I live. With a hearty sunburn. Not as bad as I used to get them, weirdly. Despite being quite red after 9+ hour days outside, and my skin _burning_ like a sunburn, the pink faded away pretty quickly in the last 2 days. When I was younger, it'd take at least a week, if not more.
But it's nice to be productive again. Seeing the sprawl of beach McMansions crammed into every spare inch of an already tiny island (It's about 50 yards across, but miles long), and the mainland coast a sea of houses, sure made me feel things about economic class. One of the houses I was working on, they'd taken down the old porch and built a new one about half the width off the house, because those few yards of land, plus a few yards from their neighbor, added up to about 10 yards across, and 20 yards deep, of marshland that a house could be stuffed into. For $2,300,000, developers paid them for that little scrap.

Caught up with an old friend today. Hadn't spoken in 10 years, in person in 15-ish. Turned into a 6 hour conversation, which against my wishes veered right into politics, but it was very cordial. To spare the details, my old friend group before I moved to the south, did stay together after I left, despite me being the nexus at the time. Went into some pretty wild directions, with me being the notable exception. One became transgender, another started a band and teaches rock music to kids, another works in the arts in NYC, and another went off the grid. Then, me, who had the same general upbringing, and became a reclusive hermit.
It was nice. Reminded me of what a wildly different, and better, life I would've had but for a twist of fate, but so it goes. I'm glad my old friends did so well for themselves. Need to do better and keep in contact more than I did before we drifted apart.

Happy Easter everyone.
Enjoy the guilt-free chocolate and if you're religious have a good time with that.
If I remember correctly this year Ramadan, Eid and Passover also occur at the same time as Easter this year.

Happy easter to you all as well. I passed it with two friends playing computer games, for the first time after three years. We used to do these get-togethers regularly before COVID, and although a few guys just got it and so had to cancel, we had a great time.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Well I am having a trip to London tomorrow.
Gonna see if the big geek shop there has some cool shit.

Wait, what? Brontosaurus is a real dinosaur now? I was told when I was a kid that they made a mistake with some skulls and it wasn't a real dinosaur and I'm reading an article about how it's totally legitimate now. My 7 year-old self is doing cartwheels under the monkey bars in my head.

Have a safe trip! And yeah, if anyplace would, it'd be there. Gonna hit up the Games Workshop...shop? If you go to a nice chippy, do me a favor and get me some and airmail it wrapped in plastic and dry ice.

I never heard that it wasn't real! Jurassic Park would never lie to us, surely.

The former. We used to do these yearly on easter before COVID (for 20 years as well) and are re-starting the tradition again now. This year was short of a few attendants, but next year we'll probably get back more people.

I'm sure people are chomping to bits to fight Arthas again, knowing he just fades into nothing eventually.

Okay... sooo basically, the original Brontosaurus was a chimera, accidentally created by an american paleontologist who put the head of a Camarasaurus ontop the body of an Apatosaurus. A few years ago tho a few speciments of Apatosaurus were deemed worthy to be classified as their own separate genus, so the name Brontosaurus was resurrected and used for those.
In other words, o.g. Brontosaurus was fake, but now the name is in use for another animal that is as close as the one originally misnamed Brontosaurus as it gets.
Paleontology is fascinating but also kiiiiinda weird like that xD
